Sauteed Green Beans

1 1/2 pounds string beans, stems trimmed
2 T butter or olive oil
Salt, Freshly ground pepper to taste

Optional:
garlic, shallot or onion, sauteed
sauteed mushrooms
toasted almonds or walnuts
2 T sesame seeds
drizzle of sesame oil
2 T fresh squeezed lemon juice
parmesan cheese
american cheese (can just add to drained beans is using alone)

Cook green beans in covered pot for 5 minutes in 1 inch of boiling water, drain, rinse under cold water.

Melt butter/oil in a saucepan over medium heat, saute optional ingredients such as garlic, shallot, onion or mushrooms. Add beans and toss thoroughly. Season with salt and pepper, and add optional ingredients such as nuts, seeds, oil, lemon juice or cheese and toss again.
