Easy Tomato Soup

1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup flour
2 cups water
28 oz crushed or pureed tomatoes
pinch baking soda
pinch sugar
opt: heavy cream
salt & pepper to taste

Melt butter, add flour, cook and stir until smooth for 1 minute. Add water, cook and stir until thickened.
Whisk in tomato sauce, cook until boiling, remove from heat.
Whisk in baking soda and sugar, stir until smooth, add optional cream (a few tablespoon), season to taste.
