Homemade Peanut Butter Pattie Bars (like Girl Scout Tagalongs)

1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 T milk

Line a 9x9 baking pan with foil. Butter foil.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Mix in flour, baking powder and salt at a low speed, followed by the vanilla and milk. The dough should come together into a soft ball.
Press dough evenly into prepared pan.
Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes, until the edges are lightly browned and middle is set. Cool.

Filling:
1 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter
3/4 cup confectioners’ sugar
dash salt
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

In a small bowl, stir together peanut butter, confectioners’ sugar, salt and vanilla. When the mixture has come together, heat it in the microwave (in short intervals, stirring frequently), until it is soft and smooth. Spread over cooled crust, chill fpr 20-30 minutes or until firm.

4 oz milk chocolate
4 oz dark or semisweet chocolate

Melt the chocolate in a small, heat-resistant bowl. Spread over peanut butter, chill until firm.
Remove from refrigerator and lift out cookies in foil, place on cutting board. Let warm slightly before cutting. Cut into 36 squares.
