Sugar (roll out) Cookies - sour cream
These cookies are soft and rather dense, but keep their shape well for detailed roll out cookies. If you don't mind a little spread and want a lighter, more delicate soft cookie, use the Soft Sugar Cookie recipe.

1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup sour cream
1 tsp vanilla
4 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt

Beat butter and sugar together until light. Beat in egg, sour cream and vanilla.
Whisk together dry ingredients, add to creamed mixture.
Chill well (overnight if possible), roll out to 1/4 inch, cut into shapes. Place on ungreased baking sheets.
Decorate with colored sugars, sprinkles, nuts, raisins, chocolate chips, gumdrops, etc. before baking, or icing (below) after baking.
Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes, depending on size and thickness of cookie, or just until edges start to brown. Makes 4-6 dozen
