Danish Apple Bars

2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter
1 egg yolk plus enough milk to equal 2/3 cup, lightly beaten (reserve white for topping)
1 cup crushed corn flakes
4-5 apples, peeled and sliced
1 cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
dash nutmeg
1 egg white
Glaze:
1 cup 10X sugar
1-2 T water for desired consistency.
Whisk together flour and salt. Cut in shortening and butter with pastry blender until crumbs are size of peas. Add egg/milk and mix just until combined.
Divide dough in half, roll one half to fill bottom and sides of 13x9 inch pan.
Sprinkle bottom crust with corn flakes.
Place apples over cornflakes, sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Roll out other half of dough and place on top. Pinch edges to seal.
Beat egg white until stiff and brush over top crust.
Bake at 375 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes.
Let cool slightly, drizzle with glaze
