Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 cup unsalted butter, softened (use good quality)
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1-12 oz pkg (2 cups) chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Cream butter and sugars. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
Combine flour, baking soda and salt, blend in to creamed mixture.
Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
Drop by tablespoonfuls or roll into flattened balls onto ungreased baking sheets.
Bake at 375 for 7 minutes or just until edges start to brown.

Pan Cookie Variation: Prepare cookie dough as directed. Spread into greased 15x10x1-inch baking pan. Bake at 375 degrees F for 20 minutes. Cool; cut into squares.
