Fruit Crumb Coffee Cake

2 1/2 cups flour
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
3/4 cup buttermilk or sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Grease and flour 9x9 square pan.
Combine flour and sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs, remove and reserve 1 cup of crumb mixture.
To remaining crumb mixture in bowl add baking powder, soda, salt, egg, buttermilk and vanilla, stir just until combined. Spread batter in pan. Top with fruit topping and reserved crumbs.
Bake 350 45-50 minutes. Cool at least 15 minutes before removing sides of pan.

Fruit Topping:
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1-2 T cornstarch
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
2 cups chopped fruit

Combine in saucepan. Cook over medium heat until thickened. Remove from heat, cool slightly. Pour over batter in pan, top with reserved crumbs.
