Copycat Pizza Hut Breadsticks
Source: combination of recipes - makes 10 breadsticks
Dough:
2 cups bread flour
1 tsp instant yeast
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp sugar
1/4 cup milk, warmed
1/2 cup warm water
1 T olive oil
Dipping sauce:
8 oz tomato sauce
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/4 tsp dried basil
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp salt, if needed
Breadstick topping:
2 T grated parmesan
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 T dried oregano
1/2 tsp salt
6 T butter, melted, divided
Mix together 1 cup of the flour, yeast, salt and sugar in a bowl. Stir in milk, water and oil, mix until smooth. Add in remaining flour enough at a time until dough is workable. Knead for 5 minutes.
Let dough rest until soft enough to roll out - roll into a 13x9 rectangle.
Spread 4 T of the butter in a 13x9 pan, and fit dough into pan. Brush top of dough with another 1 T of the butter.
Cover with plastic wrap and let rise until doubled, 60-90 minutes.
While dough is rising, combine dipping sauce ingredients in small saucepan and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove from heat.
Mix topping ingredients together in small bowl.
Preheat oven to 475.
Once the dough has risen, remove the plastic wrap and score/cut the dough in 10 equal strips (I used a bench scraper). Bake until golden brown and the edges start to look crisp, about 10-15 minutes.
As soon as the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush with the remaining 1 T butter, then immediately sprinkle with the topping mixture. Allow to cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes, remove and cut apart if necessary.
Serve warm or at room temperature with the dipping sauce.
