Red Wine Sangria
Source: adapted from several recipes

2 (750-ml) bottles Spanish red wine (cheap is good!)
1/4 cup orange liqueur
1/4 cup brandy
1 cup simple syrup* (to taste)
2 oranges, thinly sliced
1 lemon, thinly sliced
1 lime, thinly sliced
Fresh pitted cherries or grapes
Ripe peaches, nectarines, pears, plums, or apples, cut into thin wedges
1 liter seltzer water

Pour the wine, orange liqueur, brandy and simple syrup into a pitcher. Add the fruit; cover and chill overnight.
Top up with seltzer - half a bottle or to taste.
Serve over ice, garnish rims with lemon or orange wedges, if desired.

Options: Use white wine instead of red. Make non-alcoholic sangria by using grape juice instead of red wine and orange juice instead orange liqueur or brandy.

Serves 8

*Simple Syrup
1 cup sugar
1 cup water

Boil until sugar is dissolved. Cool and chill. Will keep for 3 weeks.
