Chili (updated 2/11/22)

1 to 1-1/2 pounds ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
1/2 green bell pepper, chopped
1 large clove garlic, minced
2 - 4 T chili powder (depending on spicyness - different brands vary greatly)
1/4 tsp ground red pepper, or to taste
1 T red pepper flakes, or to taste
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp oregano
1 tsp salt
1 can (28-35 oz) crushed tomatoes
1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed

Brown meat with onion, green pepper and garlic, stir in dry seasonings. Stir and cook a few minutes.
Add tomatoes (and water if needed), cover and simmer 45 minutes.
Add kidney beans, cook uncovered until heated through, 15 minutes
